Fairchild-Dornier
Announces Launch Customer For 328JET
Paris (June 19,
1997) -- Fairchild-Dornier identified the launch customer for its 328JET
regional aircraft at the Paris Air Show. French carrier, Proteus Airlines,
is buying six of the 32-seaters for deliveries in 1999. The Proteus order
is valued at $70 million.
At the same time, Jim Robinson, Fairchild-Dornier president, announced
that Aspen Mountain Air will be the North American launch customer for the
new aircraft. The carrier is taking four firm orders with four options,
for a total of $50 million, and will operate the new jets from its base
at Dallas/Fort Worth. Deliveries will being in 1999.
The Fairchild-Dornier 328JET will roll out late this year with first
flight scheduled for the first month of 1998.
Aspen Mountain Air also placed firm orders for eight Dornier 328 turboprops
for delivery this year and next.
Fairchild-Dornier is in the thick of negotiations for a third order,
expecting an announcement to be made in the next two months.
The company is also on the verge of announcing the configuration of a
new 50-seat aircraft, called the 528JET. The new aircraft will be equivalent
in price to the 50-seat turboprop. This is Fairchild-Dornier's attempt to
move into EMB-145 territory, perhaps wise since Embraer has announced its
intent to define a 30-seat regional called the EMB-135.
