By Rebecca Rayko,

FARNBOROUGH, England – The AeroWorldNet team begins this week's news with the first daily report from the 1998 Farnborough Air Show, which kicks off today and runs through Saturday, September 13. The biennial show is England's premier aerospace event where the world of aviation comes to spotlight their goods and the aircraft show what they're made of.

This year's event marks the show's 50th anniversary at the Hampshire location. While many vintage aircraft will be on hand to celebrate the show's history, more focus will be placed on the newer technologies available in avionics, defense, and aircraft. The show site is expanded to 70,000 square meters of covered exhibition space and 37,000 square meters of outdoor space. Seventy-five companies have booked 163 chalet spaces at the show.

Farnborough traditionally is the announcement platform for the major aircraft orders of the year. Organizers expect record numbers of visitors this year and the exibitors will number around 1,189. The mix of exhibited civil and military aircraft at the 1996 show was 60:40 on display, with exhibitors from 31 countries in attendance. This year more than 200 aircraft are expected to be on display.

The AWN staff is on hand providing daily coverage of announcements, orders, and other news straight from the sources as the events unfold. Stay tuned to AWN as we bring you the largest Farnborough International of the decade!
