Tecstar Displays Total Systems Solutions

Paris (June 19, 1997) -- Tecstar's exhibit at the Paris Air Show displayed products from both the company's Electro Systems Division and the Applied Solar Division.

The Electro Systems Division's Mark 3 solid state magnetic compass calibration system provides efficient calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting of aircraft compass systems. Tecstar's compact Mark 3 is 20 percent lighter than older types of calibration systems, making it an ideal replacement for MC-2 systems and an excellent alternative to manual calibration.

The Applied Solar Division displayed the company's innovative solar panels, utilizing Gallium Arsenide on Germanium cell technology. The panels are in use on a number of high profile space programs, including the Mars Pathfinder mission scheduled to land on the red planet next month. The panel being displayed at Paris is a model of that in use on the A Sky B satellite. Tecstar panels can provide highly efficient power capabilities exceeding 218 watts per sq. meter at 28 degrees C, AM0, from a low mass density panel. Power density on the GaAs/Ge panels exceeds 110.6 watts per kilogram with a graphite epoxy substrate.

Tecstar has over 25,000 sq. ft. of solar panel manufacturing and assembly area in their City of Industry, California facilities.

The Electro Systems Division in Durham, North Carolina also displayed a first stage thrust vector control for use on the space shuttle. The company manufactures deployment mechanisms, pointing systems, actuators and motor components for many of the world's most advanced space vehicles. The off-the-shelf designs can handle stall forces ranging from 150 lbs to 20,000 lbs, at actuation speeds from 0.1 inches/second to 20 inches/second. Tecstar engineering also provides custom designed systems for existing and new generation space applications.
