Oh yes, I'm sorry I said MFI instead of LFI. But even in that case, I thought the MiG/Sukhoi LFS was the only ac comming up as a Russian Rival to JSF. And yes you are correct about the experience Yak has on developing VSTOL ac. Yak-141 still stunns me! I guess the Russians should put advanced and LO versions of Yak-141 into production. Particularly this and the Yak-38 have been the most mysterious planes. They are capable of taking off from the back of a KRAZ-162. These trucks can inturn be airdropped anywhere and no one knows from where they are operating.
I guess the Yak LFI is goin to be a more dedicated light fighter. But the US X-32 and X-35 are not capable of VTOL!
