Su-37 Makes Dramatic Debut
The Su-37, Russia's thrust-vectoring warbird, captured the hearts of onlookers with its first every public appearance. With tremendous maneuverability, the Su-37 puts the rest of the world's military aircraft manufacturers on notice that there's a hot new kid on the block. The Su-37 is a derivative of the Su-27, and Sukhoi says the thrust-vectoring capabilities can be retrofitted on all such derivatives. The plane, and its pilot, Yevgeny Frolov, are expected to show off several dramatic aerobatic feats including the sensational horizontal Cobra maneuver first demonstrated at Farnborough '94. Also expected in the program are a heart-stopping Reclining Cobra in which the aircraft rotates completely over until it is flying inverted tail-first.
