And Then There Were Two in the UAE Bidding?Farnborough, September 4 -- Lockheed Martin indicated that they have been informed that McDonnell Douglas is out of the competition for the United Arab Emirates strike fighter order. The potential $9 billion order now appears to be a battle between Lockheed Martin's F-16 and Dassault's Rafale. UAE currently flies Dassault Mirage 2000s and Mirage 5s so it is natural that Rafale would be in consideration. UAE is expected to decide on the winning aircraft by the end of the year.
